Scallops in the Airfryer!

I'm putting this out here as I couldn't find much information when I was thinking of doing it. But yes you CAN airfry scallops!

The downside is it doesn't look seared. At least, not in the delicious Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen style seared. But the upside is awesome! You never need to worry about overcooked scallops again! Before trying it out in the airfryer, I was trying to cook it in a pan, ala Hell's Kitchen style, and in the end it became tough and rubbery. (I can imagine Gordon throwing it against the wall yelling "IT'S RUBBERY!"

Anyway, without much ado, here it is! As usual, it's really simple

What you need:
  • Scallops - I like the big Canadian ones. Comes in a big box. Expensive though
  • Oil
  • Some seasoning - I use black pepper
What to do:
  1. Pour a bit of oil in your hand and lightly rub each scallop with it. It doesn't need to be dripping. Just a little will do
  2. Season your scallops. I just rub them with black pepper
  3. Preheat airfryer at 200 deg
  4. Place the scallops into the basket and set the timer for 4 mins
And that's it! No more rubbery scallops! Sometimes I put it in for half a min longer, but that's about it.
Also, note that if you're just putting the scallops directly in the basket, the holder will be filled with scallop juice. It's not oily, so it's easy to clean. Just pour it out and wipe it gently with a sponge and detergent.

Airfried scallops + brussel sprouts and air fried prawn paste cod. Well, there's also steamed egg (non airfried!) in the pic. I'll take better pics next time!

As you can see, the scallops aren't browned at all. But I guess they are the same style as you can get in most Chinese stores! The brussel sprouts were also done in the airfryer. More on that next time!

  3. sprayed them with olive oil/ lightly coated with panko worked well. Just wait until the panko gets golden. And of course, shake them around a few times.
